PEDEC starts building strategic tanks
PEDEC, with the help of Iranian engineers, has taken the first initiative to build leading edge high-technology strategic crude oil tanks in Iran.

According to Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC) website, the Oil tanks Construction Project mainly aims at construction of Goureh and Omidieh concrete tanks, said project manager Eng. Ebrahim Piravi.

When he was asked why the project progress is slow, he stated, "This is the first time that concrete oil tanks are built in Iran, taking into consideration that considering concrete tanks for storing oil is a cutting edge technology."

Piravi explained, "Also, the local contractor has not enough experience in this field, as this is the first initiative to build concrete oil tanks in Iran."

He reiterated that they have followed the policy of maximum utilization of local workforce that also brings technology inside the country.

Goureh has four oil tanks, each with a capacity of 0.5 million barrels, and two other tanks, with a capacity of one million barrels. Cyber Co. is supposed to launch these oil tanks within the next 24 months.

Piravi said that recently, NIOC' board of directors has approved completing construction of concrete oil tanks in Omidiyeh, a city located in southern Iran. "We are now trying to choose a contractor for Omidiyeh oil tanks."

Omidiyeh has two oil tanks, each with a capacity of 0.5 million barrels. The construction of these two tanks is due to be finished within a 30-month period.

The project also includes construction of steel oil tanks. "Now, the construction of steel oil tanks of Ahwaz, Siri and Bahregan has been completed and were delivered to their producers", added Piravi. "Hopefully, we have finished settling our accounts with the contractors of these tanks."

The Strategic Crude Oil tanks Construction Project aims to increase and stabilize crude oil production, and to prevent daily fluctuation caused by operational problems in crude oil production. Strategic tanks supplies local refineries or oil export terminals with crude oil in case an emergency occurs, and therefore, are regarded as vital facilities. The project includes construction of 17 strategic concrete and steel oil tanks with a capacity of 10 million barrels.
